I recently had a situation where I needed to be able to give an end-user the ability to perform an action on one of our servers as root. Not ideal, but it was the most robust way of handling the task. Basically, there are a buch of user accounts that are used for a particular event which is happening outside work hours , and this staff member needs to be able to clean out the homes of the 40 special accounts. But on the other hand, we don't really want Joe User to be able to log into our file server either. Even if we just give him sudo access to run that command, I'm not comfortable with that. In this case, we set up some bogus account on the server that had sudo access to run the script to recreate the homes in question. You could craft a login script that fired the command and logged out, but to me that is somewhat of a hack.
