We got about 2 feet of wet snow all at once 2 days ago. You can see where the center impeller just hits the snow and its' like running into a brick wall, and forward motion stops. I modified the center impeller so that it reached out beyond the round shaft cover. That helped some. I think if a person rebuilt the impellers to be stronger and more aggressive, it might help it perform better. I agree, most snowblowers aren't made to handle much more than a few inches of snow.

Reverse requires the driven disc be moved to the other side of center of the driving disc than the side used for forward motion.

Turn the engine off and let it cool. Disconnect the spark plug ignition wire and remove the safety ignition key to prevent accidental starting of the engine. Cables do stretch over time. The belts can be found under the belt cover in front of the engine. Check the belts for signs of wear, including cracking and glazing. If the belts are showing signs of wear you should replace them. The auger sections are equipped shear pins to help prevent damage to other components should an impact occur. Fractured shear pins can cause loss of operation to one or multiple sections of the auger.

The design blocks a lot of the snow from entering the final impeller stage. I had to slow down, of course. Charlie which direction did you go to adjust? Also with the "Brow" or shield over the back auger paddle before it gets to the impeller blade, they are known for clogging and getting "Choked off". Almost There!

My guess is it might have something to do with the gear shift and not the speed. The augers would get damages well before a shear bolt would break, that was just how they worked, it wasn't a good design.
