Code Lyoko is an Animesque show that was written and produced in France in English and French for simultaneous release in its home nation as well as the US — and about other countries. It follows the adventures of a group of teenage students at a Boarding School who discover a supercomputer in the basement of a nearby abandoned factory. The computer has modules that allow people from the real world to "virtualize" into the Cyberspace of Lyoko, where an evil A. The computer also has the ability to effect a temporal recursion in Layman's Terms , rewind time up to 24 hours in the real world. The show's primary aesthetic hook was that scenes in the real world are depicted in 2D animation, while scenes on Lyoko are animated in CGI. XANA manifests in Lyoko indirectly through a variety of monsters with various attacks and tactics, trying to capture Aelita and repulse her protectors from the real world. XANA also attacks the real world, which at first resembles the results of The Cracker , doing damage through various interfaces, but these attacks slowly gain a supernatural edge, including summoning monsters in the real world, and possession of students and teachers. The students often use the Return to the Past function to repair damage and effect a kind of Masquerade to protect Aelita, however with the knowledge that death is permanent -- not even time travel will bring them back. Each sector is isolated from the others by a physical representation of the Internet known as the Digital Sea. A sparse, unpopulated world, the most notable landmarks on Lyoko are the Towers scattered around it; twenty-one in each main sector and only one in Sector Five. It is the Japanese word for "travel", and was chosen by series co-creator Tania Palumbo and production manager Anne de Galard to emphasize the dive into a virtual world.

Contrary to the original show, it sports a major difference: instead of the mix of 2D and 3D animation styles that Code Lyoko was famous for, the 3D has been revamped, and the 2D has been replaced with live-action. It ran with one season of 26 episodes. A preview screening took place in Paris on December 5th, , the first episode was streamed on France 4's website on December 19th, , and the first three episodes of the series premiered on France 4 on January 5th, The series starts around six months after the end of Code Lyoko. Though they initially dismiss it as coincidence , Aelita convinces them to go back to the Factory and reactivates the Supercomputer just to make sure. It quickly turns out that XANA somehow survived by infecting the Lyoko Warriors with his source code right before the destruction of his Replikas, effectively turning them into his Soul Jars.

Xanatos Speed Chess : In "A Lack of Goodwill", when his clone defeats him and prevents him from directly destroying the Supercomputer by sending him in the elevator and activating it, XANA-William goes to the computer room and instead attempts to melt-down the Supercomputer by bugging its cooling system.
