With March Madness at Southwest Elementary coming to an end for the school year yesterday, Physical Education teacher Jodi Crowdis reflects on a fun three weeks filled with basketball games. First Baptist Church of Clinton is now up to full pastoral staff with the addition of Jesse Belvin, who will serve as the associate pastor of students and families. Jesse, along with his wife Abby, and their 2-year-old son, has relocated from Elgin to Clinton to join the church and the community. I recognize that my behavior is hurting those I love, and I am desperate to find a way to overcome this addiction and repair the damage it has caused. I feel consumed by the need to play games, and it has become a coping mechanism that only fuels my anger and frustration. Township officials say they have enough money through a combination of grants, fundraisers, and township funds to pay for the structure at the Civic Center on Romeo Plank Road at Canal Road. While the playground may be for every youngster, it will contain special features focusing on special need kids, such as wheelchair ramps, shaded areas, quiet zones, Braille boards and sign-language boards. Organizers said the playground will be built near the main Clinton-Macomb Public Library, where it will serve everyone equally, including the 4, people in Clinton Township who have intellectual and physical disabilities. The Clinton Township's Board of Trustees last week approved several measures relating to the playground. State funds were secured by state Rep. Cannon and other officials say the board will have continued oversight of the project, while the committee will continue to fundraise in an effort to reduce or eliminate the need for any local government funds to be used, and engineers will start their work. Board members also approved signing the grant agreement from the state and approved working with vendor Game Time to put together the project design. The incident following a traffic crash on Sunday in Clinton Township, Capt. Anthony Coppola said in a news release. According to the release, officers determined one of the drivers involved in the crash "had been doing so under the influence of intoxicants" and was arrested. All of the people involved in the incident cooperated fully with the investigation, police said in the release. The township police department would not say where or what time of day the crash took place, or if there were any injuries involved. Coppola said the investigation is closed, but no other information would be released at this time.
