At around pm on May 23, two Chinese teens who were identified as Shi and Ye were livestreaming on Chinese social media app Douyin when another person attacked them from the back. Screen recordings of the incident went viral online. Images of the severed hand also went viral, although some netizens suspect it could be a prop. According to a statement by the police, the Xindian Police Station received a call to the incident at about pm on May 23 and quickly arrived at the scene. The report added that Shi and Ye were sent to the hospital for treatment and their injuries are not life-threatening.

Photos of the severed hand, which reportedly belonged to Mr Shi, were later circulated widely online. Some netizens questioned if the photos were authentic or if a prop was used. Their injuries are not life-threatening, said the police. The suspect, identified as Luo, fled the scene but was arrested on Wednesday.
