The cave can be visited during the day as well as in the evening. The cave recieves the name of Xoroi due to a turkish pirate who lived sheltered in the cave during years and who survived stealing. The legend tells that when they discovered Xoroi in the cave, he jumped to the sea and nobody ever saw him again. You can arrive by car and park without problems in the parking or in the surrounding streets of the local see map. During the day you can enjoy the beauty of this incredible place and the views that offers its priviledged situation at the top of the cliffs, right above the sea.

These rocks, scented by the sea air, guard with their imposing beauty the legend of a love story. Xoroi, a man from an unknown past, came from the sea, nobody knows how, perhaps the sole survivor from some shipwreck, and found refuge in the cave. Then, the surrounding houses in the countryside were often robbed. From one of these houses, a young woman about to be married disappeared. The months and the years went by… Nothing more was known of the missing girl. One day in the winter, the island was blanketed by unexpected snow. In the snow tell tale footprints appeared. Armed men following the imprints went down into the Cave. There, in the cavern, they found a man, a woman and three sons, the fruit of their love. Xoroi, on seeing himself surrounded and powerless, threw himself into the sea followed by his eldest son. The sea that had brought him, closed over them both, guarding the mystery of his life.

A blog filled with our trips, experiences, photography and tips. Dive on in! Menorca is one of the Balearic Islands located in the Mediterranean Sea and is a less than an hour flight from Barcelona. Our primary reason for selecting Menorca was the idea of a Mediterranean cave bar. The bar is basically situated in a series of caves on the side of the island over looking the Mediterranean Sea. It turns into a night club at some point possibly during prime season and only on weekends but we only experienced several tour groups rolling in throughout the afternoon. To get down to the bar we walked several hundred steps down the side of the cliff.
When I set sail for Menorca via Easyjet , the images were rushing through my mind of a hidden cave that only backpackers could get to, a party destination that was well known among the local hippie community and the island hoppers of the area. Oh, so secretive and oh so exciting. Or so I thought…. In my head, I was going to have to hike for miles and miles to see if this place really existed. Oh, how wrong, silly Lauren. When I landed and grabbed a tourist information brochure, what was on the front page? The magic was gone. I was heartbroken.

Definitely one of the hidden gems in Menorca. Some of the best views out to the Mediterranean sea with Mallorca in the distance. There are plenty of events throughout the year and summer to keep you entertained. Particularly if you want to relax with views of the sunset. Although a club, children are welcomed during the Cova day sessions. But, not advised for the afternoon and sunset, or night sessions. Ultimately it is a club. You will need to head to Cala en Porter and towards the coast. However, from Mahon you can take the Me road which leave Mahon from the south west.
