By fine I mean thin, but the term also applies to the quality. If you want to weave a traditional tartan, this is the yarn to use. Angela K. Schneider Sep 22, - 9 min read. Worsted in this case refers to the way the wool is prepared and spun, aligning the fibers in a smooth, dense, and hard-wearing yarn not to be confused with the term worsted-weight often used to describe a size of knitting yarn. This yarn is thin at 4, yards per pound and 44 wraps per inch, with very little variation in thickness. It has a smooth and slightly fuzzy texture, not silky or particularly soft.

Camilla Valley Farm occasionally receives previously owned Leclerc weaving looms and accessories. These looms are completely refurbished and any damaged or missing pieces are repaired with genuine Leclerc replacement parts to ensure they are in proper working order. Knowing that the cost of repairs can often exceed the actual purchase price on used looms, we are very picky on which models we offer and what condition they are in. The listings below show some of the looms and accessories available at the present time. We normally have more items not listed in the store. The price shown includes only what is shown in the picture unless otherwise noted. Also, depending upon your location in Southern Ontario, we may be able to offer delivery and installation services and possible trade-ins for used and new looms. Contact us to discuss this. These products will often have some wear and scratches as would be expected on pre-owned equipment.

The Leclerc Colonial v2 adapts the traditional handloom design used by our ancestors updating it with a number of modern improvements while maintaining the classic look. Constructed with the finest Canadian Maple hardwood, it is finished with clear lacquer and varnish so that the beauty of the natural wood remains visible. The Colonial v2 is available in both 45" and 60" weaving widths and can be ordered with 8 or 12 shafts. Kits are available to add more shafts allowing a weaver to start with basic 8 shaft weaves and then expand to 12 later as they become more proficient. The floating lams, overhead jacks and hanging shafts produce a multi-shaft loom that is easy to treadle and quiet in operation. The loom's friction break and cloth advance rachet are sturdy enough for high tension warps and can be easily activated while the weaver is sitting. Note that a larger version of the picture to the left can be found by clicking on the image. The Colonial series of looms were upgraded in with the improved Jack mechanism now found in the Colonial v2. These improvements include bushings for the jacks to ride on, rerouting of the cords to the sides instead of through the warp, a back-hinge treadle design that is lower and more comfortable for the weaver, and a new tie-up system to speed up the process and minimize the chance of cord mix-up. The result is a vastly improved loom design with a wider and cleaner shed.
