Found on the southern corner of Burleigh Beach, the Burleigh Pavilion is by no means the most elevated rooftop bar in Gold Coast, but it still comes with one of the best views. From the open-air terrace you can enjoy amazing panoramics over the Pacific Ocean, Burleigh Beach and the Broadbeach skyline. Dressed in a bright, beachside suite, here you find high tables underneath the umbrellas and front-row stools facing the ocean, perfect for sunny and relaxing food and drinks. Open from 11am every day except Christmas Day , the Burleigh Pavilion menu includes a wide range of fresh comfort food, from woodfired pizzas to prawns and burgers, as well as refreshing cocktails, spritz, jugs and wine some on tap. The Pav does not take bookings, so just show up and enjoy a beachside lunch break or after beach drinks, from Thursday to Sunday with local DJs creating the soundtrack.

The Locals. You're taking people's hard-earned cash, so you want them to feel like they've got value for it and really, really enjoyed it Gold Coast, meet Ben May. In just a few short weeks, Ben and his team will unveil Burleigh Pavilion — a multi-level restaurant and bar offering that is set to herald a new era for the storied Burleigh headland site. Ben is a Sydney-based businessman, keen surfer and father of four boys, who generally prefers to let his venues do the talking for him. We were keen to get to know him a little more, so Ben took five to chat to us about bringing Burleigh Pavilion to life. Tell us a little about your vision for Burleigh Pavilion and how the concept first came together? What drew you to this site and more specifically, to the Gold Coast?

We would venture to say Burleigh Heads is one of the most-loved places on Earth and for very good reason. A stunning coastline, world-class surf break, a breathtaking national park and, to top it all off, five star eateries. Plus, every single person there is wandering around with a big old smile on their face at all times — obviously. Yes friends, Burleigh Pavilion is open and it is even more delightful than we could have imagined. As of late December, the much-anticipated venue threw open their doors to hordes of absolutely thrilled locals and many visitors who it seems have been waiting for this moment their entire lives and same to be honest. You can find the Pavilion at the base of Burleigh Hill, right on the sand and overlooking not only Burleigh beach but also the entire northern Gold Coast coastline. To your left is The Tropic, the sit down dining section of the establishment and, to your right, The Terrace, a more casual, walk-in-off-the-beach-with-sandy-feet style of venue.

The Pav does not take bookings, so just show up and enjoy a beachside lunch break or after beach drinks, from Thursday to Sunday with local DJs creating the soundtrack. The lower floor of the venue has been built to accommodate storm surges by installing removable bifold glazing and allowing storm surges to move into and through the building. The Tropic restaurant distinguishes itself with rattan ceiling, crazy paved floor and pink and brass highlights, whereas the Pavilion Bar and external Beach Bar celebrate ocean front views with painted concrete block and ample foliage. Additionally, the space also had to be robust and easily maintained, appealing equally to guests visiting straight from the beach to those enjoying a smart lunch or dinner. Change country. Creatively, our client required that the project evoke memories of his childhood spent holidaying in Burleigh Heads; a 70s Gold Coast beach nostalgia.
