Each registry records all documents about real estate ownership within its district. Registers assign a sequential identifying number known as the book and page number to each document, then scan it into the registry's computer system. You can view images from these scans online at your home or office. Registries also microfilm all recorded documents, and many still produce paper record books with document images. In most cases, registers return original documents to the landowner. To help customers find relevant documents, registries create a searchable index with property addresses and the names of all parties to each document. The satellite office of the Plymouth County Registry of Deeds moved in mid-November from the historic district court building on West Elm Street to the former district attorney's office at 32 Belmont St. In between tasks during a busy Friday at the end of the month, as a flurry of real estate closings took place, the small staff at the Brockton office told The Enterprise that the newly renovated 5,square-foot office space with light yellow walls is a vast improvement from the deteriorating building on West Elm Street. I think that's an added plus. Everybody loves it. As you can see, we are busy today. Kathy Ambrose, a recorder of records at the Brockton registry office, agreed. Ambrose said the first-floor office and a new handicap ramp built out front eliminated accessibility issues for disabled people at the former second floor location on West Elm Street.
