In every other automatic climate control car I've owned or driven including several e46 3 series that appear to have the exact same setup I set the temperature to 72F or 73F and hit the auto button, and I basically never need to touch anything again. This X3, it can be quite warm outside and hot in the car with a lot of sun bearing down and it doesn't even switch to high fan speed for more than a minute before slowing down a lot.
