Bricks are a group of blocks that usually have a rectangular pattern. All bricks have the word "Brick" in their name however, Mudstone Brick is called Mudstone Block on Old-gen console version. Most bricks are crafted at a Furnace or a Work Bench , but some can only be found. All brick types are impervious to environmental effects such as grass growth or the spread of the evil biome , except the Gray Brick , which can have moss grow on it. All bricks have no value when sold to NPCs.

Blocks are the primary components of every Terraria world. They make up nearly all of the game's terrain, with the preponderance of a particular block type in an area determining its biome. Nearly all blocks are collectible for use by players, and are mined with a Pickaxe , Drill , or an explosive. All block types can be stacked up to in a single inventory slot. There are currently block types, including natural, crafted, purchased, and summoned block types. These blocks are created when the world is generated. Though few of them are renewable, more can always be found by generating new worlds. Soils are the most accessible type of block in the game, and they make up the majority of the world. Many of them grow Plants naturally. All soils can be mined with a Copper Pickaxe or Tin Pickaxe except for the Stone variants as noted below. Soils are the only blocks that can be converted by the Corruption , Crimson , and Hallow. All soils are destroyed by explosives. These blocks drop when their respective plant is looted from the environment using the necessary tool. Once in the player's inventory, they can be placed like other blocks and likewise looted with a Pickaxe , Drill , or explosives. Trap blocks are likewise found throughout the world.

To make a house that will shield you from monsters, all you need are blocks of any kind. Note that blocks and walls are two different things. Walls will place walls behind you, which allow you to hang torches, paintings, and other wall decorations. Blocks are the squares that make up the terrain in Terraria, and you can pick them up using your Pickaxe. You can do this easily by building a small wall of blocks, getting rid of three of them in the middle, and then placing the door in the newly created hole. Then you can use your Hammer on the Platform to turn them into stairs facing either directions. As you decorate your house and fill it with furnishings, you may notice a NPC merchant or two move in. Stone Blocks are a type of block that composes most of the world. Found mostly underground, they compose the majority of the Cavern and Underground layers. Deep underground, Stone Blocks can generate with Moss growing on them.
