This past spring I asked several bootmakers to send me their latest, greatest models for upland hunting. As you can see, the definition of what makes a bird hunting boot is up to interpretation, but each model went through the same test: a short break-in period on morning walks followed by intense hikes in rain, snow, mud and warm weather—in other words similar conditions to what hunters might encounter throughout a season. Have a pair of Danner's I love but are fabric and are not waterproof. I've had Browning and Irish Setter kangaroo and really like how light they are. Lightweight and waterproof with a little insulation. I wore and swore by my Filson Uplander boots for over 15 years. I like the fact that they do not pick up much mud as you walk. With seasons already open in many states, and more set to open next month, hunters may be eagerly looking for a new pair. The laces slid through loops fairly easily whether I was lacing boots up or removing them. My pair is at least 25 years old. Just as comfortable but better ankle support and a heckuva lot more comfortable.
