Berserk is among the most compelling seinen manga and dark-fantasy epics ever told. The late, great Kentaro Miura's artwork comprised some of the best panels in the medium. Many longtime fans were elated that the series came back on track to finish Miura's vision following his untimely passing, but his artistry wasn't easily replicated. Miura had the talent to display not only action, but practically every emotion on the spectrum. From the intense, high-octane violence of Guts cleaving through monsters or the serenity of him looking peacefully at the stars, Berserk was a consistent feast for the eyes. As talented and dedicated as Kouji Mori and his team are, they'll never be able to truly recapture Miura's talent.

Kentaro Miura's Berserk is widely acclaimed for several reasons, one of which is its intense fight scenes. This dark-fantasy epic follows Guts and co. Even though the manga is still publishing, it's featured a host of milestone fights packed with violent spectacle. Thanks to Miura's stunningly meticulous artwork and the emotional weight behind these sequences, Guts' fights against Zodd the Immortal and Emperor Ganishka are still series highlights today. Berserk 's second storyline and the first chronologically, one of Guts' most iconic fights, came in the heat of the Golden Age arc's Hundred-Year War. During his ventures with Griffith's Band of the Hawk, he earned one of his legendary epithets in a brutal night-long fight. Buying time for Casca to make her escape, he stalls and kills Blue Whale Knights soldiers. The long, drawn-out fight is both brutal and conveys how physically draining it was for Guts. Among the biggest fan-favorite rogues in Berserk , Nosferatu Zodd is also one of the series' most formidable.

I chose the scenes that got to me the most and find them critical as important progress points in the story and characters or just got stuck in me for some reason.

The tranquility wasn't lost or wasted, but seeing Guts' heavily battle-scarred body and missing arm were sobering reminders of the cruel world and how much he sacrificed for revenge. He was always fantastic at setting a scene, with the setting sun framed perfectly next to Guts' side profile.
