Support sarna. Fusion engines are the most common type of BattleMech and aerospace power plant in the BattleTech Universe. Fusion engines can supply great quantities of power, enough for massive vehicles and all of their weapon systems, including the directed energy weapons common on modern battlefields. When no thrust is generated, fusion engines are extremely efficient, practically never needing refueling. If properly ventilated, controlled fusion reactions generate little heat.

Like, can you "equip" Mechs with different engines that have different tonnages and movement speed, or are movement points and "ghost weight" based on the chasis itself? I guess light Mechs with oversized engines just naturally suck? I can see them having a role in TT games with lots of infantry, air units, and light vehicles - but the former two are non-existent in this game, and light vehicles get phased-out in favor of Manticores, Shreks, and Demolishers pretty quickly. The Extralight fusion engine often shortened to XL fusion engine , XL or addressed as extra-light [1] is mechanically similar to a fusion engine but uses much lighter radiation shielding. Replacing the dense tungsten carbide of standard fusion engines with a crystalline polymer similar to that of double heat sinks , the XL fusion engine is half the mass for the same performance. There is a penalty in bulk, however. The Inner Sphere XL fusion engine is twice as large as the standard fusion engine, while the Clan model is about two-thirds larger.

Edit Reply Quote Quick Reply I am stuck in my ways and only really play up to eras, maybe up to and that is pushing it for me. Utilizing an 6th order polynomial trend fit to the masses of regular engines up to ER , the predicted mass of an ER would only be The only way it would be possible for a SuperHeavy Mech to carry such an engine would be if SuperHeavies had a Suspension Factor representing their incredible height and massive strides equal to half their tonnage rounded to the nearest multiple of 5 , but in order to prevent the the mech from going 24 meters per second Note that reducing speed will always, except in trivial cases where the mech is already extremely light and relatively slow, result in a increase in available mass, but carries with it its own combat penalties in reduced maneuverability. In order to maintain control, 'Mechs also mount Gyros , which vary in size proportionally to engine rating. I just wish they were all light enough to actually fit on existing units. I just don't like all that new equipment of the later eras. But like the Blue Shield system, they can be incredibly useful under very specific circumstances. If that large laser isn't comparable anymore, then so what? You may choose only one. Contact Admins.

At the other extreme, we have to drop the mech weight clear down to 20 tons before we find another mech with as little tonnage available at that speed as the Charger has. A BattleMech's fusion engine can usually last for decades on a few kilograms of hydrogen. There are no 8. Something really needs to change.
