The series is set in a fictional version of Malibu, Californiawhere all of its inhabitants are dolls. The dolls behave like humans, though a number of the show's gags rely on their doll-like nature, barbie and ken life in the dreamhouse. The series centers on the life of Barbieher friends, her siblingsher boyfriend Kenand a number of pets.

He loves Barbie with a passion and will do anything to make her happy. He helps Barbie in her time of needs and crises. He gets along with Barbie's sisters, Skipper , Stacie , and Chelsea. Ken loves inventions, as he is an inventor and constantly making inventions he names in the end of them "inator". Ken is one of the main characters in Barbie: Life in the Dreamhouse. He lives in The House of Ken and is the boyfriend of Barbie. He spends most of his time making inventions for Barbie or helping her out when she needs it.
