Nachdem die Menschen Pandora entdeckt hatten und mit den Na'vi Kontakt aufgenommen hatten, richteten sie unter der Leitung von Grace Augustine eine spezielle Schule ein, die darauf abzielte den Na'vi die Sprache der Menschen beizubringen. Auch Tsu'tey besuchte diese Schule mit einigen Na'vi, darunter Neytiri, und lernte die menschliche Sprache. Jake Sully , der sich zuvor dort verirrt hatte und von Neytiri aufgefunden wurde, war mit der weiblichen Na'vi auf dem Weg zum Kelutral , als Tsu'tey den Befehl gab, Jake aufzuhalten. Tsu'tey was mortally wounded by a machine gunner during the battle after valiantly dispatching several RDA soldiers. He told a reluctant Jake he should become the next clan leader; although Jake was reluctant to lead, claiming he is not officer material, Tsu'tey reaffirmed his dying wish. Tsu'tey was granted a merciful death at his request by Jake. Tsu'tey was born in the Omatikaya clan, as the first son of Ateyo and Artsut , along with his younger brother Arvok. From a young age, Tsu'tey showed great skills and success in hunting and leadership during his training, and became favored by his parents over Arvok, although Tsu'tey was still close with his brother. He also knew of his parents' controlling nature and learned to ignore or rebel against it. Together, they were to succeed her parents as the leaders of the clan.

Avatar: Tsu'tey's Path is a six issue comic miniseries focusing on Tsu'tey. The miniseries takes place during the events of the first Avatar film and features events that were only alluded to in the original movie. Tsu'tey's Path is the first major release from Dark Horse's Avatar comic line. The comic is chronologically followed by Avatar: The Next Shadow. The miniseries is written by Sherri L. The covers are illustrated Doug Wheatley , with variant covers by Shea Standefer. Dark Horse announced Avatar: Tsu'tey's Path on September 27, , with a first issue release date of January 16, Issue 5 came out on June 26, delayed from its original June 12 release date, with the sixth and final issue released on August 26, , delayed twice from release in July.
