Optimus Prime and Ratchet to Sam Witwicky. The Autobots are one of two factions in the Cybertronian War.

The Autobots are one of the primary factions in the Transformers mythos. They usually find themselves defending both their own race and other species against the Decepticons and upholding justice and freedom throughout the galaxy. They are considered "the good guys" in most, but not in all Transformers stories. A generally heroic, honorable group, they tend to be dedicated to peace, and feel a need to protect other races from the Decepticons. As a result, they are usually Transformers who change into non-combat oriented alternate modes such as domestic vehicles, cars, trucks, or rescue vehicles. This is not always the case, however, as their ranks certainly contain ne'er-do-wells, malcontents, and unsavory types, and the necessities of war have led many to adopt more combat-oriented alternate forms. While the Autobots have usually found themselves outnumbered by the Decepticons, the Autobots have always had home-field advantage, having not only the humans' military support, but also having more places on Earth to fall back on, while the Decepticons are entirely unwelcome on Earth.

The story of Transformers, since its origins in the 80s, has told the conflict between two sides of the planet Cybertron, the Autobots, led by Optimus Prime, and the Decepticons, led by Megatron. This time we quickly review the differences between these two groups that have been at war for thousands of years. A good starting point to learn more about these two groups would be to revisit their origin stories. However, several of the different origin stories where the Autobots and Decepticons have appeared have changed over time, either their appearances in the original cartoon, or in their multiple comic book versions. However, there is one thing always in common: Cybertron. For practical purposes, and considering that it should be the origin of everything, this is a small summary of what happened on Cybertron in the cartoon. Millions of years ago, a race of alien robots called the Quintessons created the Transformers to mine Cybertron for resources and a military force to protect the mines, their products, and Cybertron itself. One of these robots broke free of its programming, rebelled with other robots, and drove the Quintessons from the world. Civilization flourished and entered a Golden Age, but its energy consumption eventually led to a civil war between the manufacturing robots, the Autobots, and the warring military, the Decepticons. The war forced both sides to flee Cybertron in search of new energy sources. Optimus Prime led a ship with a small group of Autobots, but it was attacked by the Decepticons. This battle caused the Autobot ship, known as the Ark, to set course for Earth, where it crashed, freezing the Autobots and Decepticons for millennia. The Autobots and Decepticons are two very different factions with very different goals that have been locked in a bitter conflict for centuries. The outcome of the war between the two factions will determine the fate of both Cybertron and Earth. The Autobots are led by Optimus Prime, a wise and compassionate leader who always puts the needs of others before his own.

However, in order to give these Stunticons life, Megatron had to take them to Vector Sigma , a megacomputer deep within Cybertron. Vector Sigma could only be activated with a circuit key , which was in the hands of the ancient Autobot Alpha Trion. Megatron stole the Key and succeeded in giving life to the new team.
