While you might want to spend most of your time adventuring and taming dinosaurs in Ark: Survival Ascended , gathering resources and progressing in the game is also important. As you get higher-tier items, you can think about taming even harder dinosaurs and eventually fight the bosses of this world. During the late game, Obsidian will become one of the most important resources since it's used to craft Polymer, which is an ingredient required for a bunch of important items. If you want to get a bunch of this resource, you have to go to specific places on the map. Unlike Stone or Metal, you won't just find Obsidian nodes randomly on the map. You have to go to specific areas, and the best place to find this resource in bulk is at the top of various mountains on The Island. There are three peaks that can be seen on the northern side of the map, while one of them is in the middle of the redwoods.

Have been in the lower south cave plenty of times, and the surroundings above ground, but nop, nada, zip It should be there, right? So where is it? Inside the cave? A logic place would be where the hunter artefact is, but there I only found metal.

It is found in caves and on mountains in smooth, black rocks. Whitesky Peak and Volcano have rich amounts of obsidian rocks at and around the summit. However smaller amounts of black obsidian rocks can be found in numerous peaks around The Island. On Scorched Earth it can be found in the artifact caves. Please note that the Doedicurus is not able to gather obsidian from all of the typically black glossy rocks. For instance, it can gather obsidian from the rocks in the caldera of the volcano on The Island map , but not from the rocks on the last part of the way up to the caldera. On The Center map it can't gather from the rocks on the shores of the lake under the floating island or in the mouth of Skull Island.
