However, now Bollywood Hungama has learnt that Netflix India has cancelled the second season of Aranyak. If what we hear is true, then Netflix has apparently decided to cancel Aranyak season 2 on account of its ROI. This is a conscious effort in driving more content-driven shows and films that will connect with the audience. Earlier the streaming giant had dropped the second season of the Madhuri Dixit starrer The Fame Game as well. In both cases, apparently, Netflix was not happy with the story, script, as well as the ROI and decided on forgoing development of the second seasons. Interestingly, though the show has been cancelled, for now, we are told that the makers of Aranyak have the chance to revisit the content of the second season, and re-develop the same. In such a case, Netflix could re-list and green light the second season. However, as things stand, Aranyak will not be returning with a second season anytime soon. In the fictional Himachal Pradesh town of Sironah, two morally upright officers, both battling their own inner demons, try to find the person responsible for the alleged rape and murder of a teenage girl who had ostensibly come to spend the holidays with her mother, a foreign national, in the picturesque town. Aranyak was released on Netflix on 10 December Shubham Kulkarni of Koimoi gave the series two stars, saying, "Raveena Tandon is back on the screen and still carries the effortless screen presence. But the character given to her suffers a lot of confusion. Shubhra Gupta of The Indian Express stated, "Raveena Tandon is unafraid of appearing uncouth and crude, and is able to toughen up and soften when the occasion demands, even if the unsophisticated accent slips. Outlook reviewed the series positively, writing, "Netflix's recently released drama thriller has all those typical elements one would find in a drama thriller, yet the writers have left a few loops open, to keep the viewers guessing if a second season might be on the cards as well. Saraswati Datar of The News Minute called it "an engaging crime thriller".

With Raveena Tandon-led web series Aranyak receiving a positive response from the critics and the viewers, producer Sidharth Roy Kapur says the plans are already in motion to develop a potential second season. The crime thriller series, which has filmmaker Rohan Sippy attached as the showrunner, has been garnering positive response from the critics and audience for its taut narrative as well as performances from the cast led by Tandon. Directed by Vinay Vyakul, the show features Tandon as a cop named Kasturi Dogra, who joins hands with her city-bred replacement Angad Parambrata Chatterjee when a foreign teenage tourist disappears in a Himalayan town. With the love the show has received from the audience, we have a lot to live up to and we hope season two matches up to the first one. There will be Mahadev Ashutosh Rana as well. These three characters are the fulcrum of the show. The end of season one gave a hint to it. Roy Kapur, known for backing critically-acclaimed and commercially-successful films like Dangal, Haider, Barfi and Kai Po Che through his banner Roy Kapur Films, said the idea for Aranyak originated from a personal encounter that the writer Charudutt Acharya had during one of his trips to a small town.
