When Alienware announced its new X-series of thin luxury gaming notebooks at the pumpkin dicer of the year, I was excited to see it take a stab at essentially a version of a gaming MacBook, something Razer's been doing with its Blade laptops for a while now.

The smooth surface also made it pleasant to hold, as did the sturdy build that marks it as a premium product. The lid itself moves smoothly when you open and close the laptop, and I never heard it creak.

And although the Dell-owned brand is best known for its tricked out desktops, it also offers a series of incredibly powerful gaming laptops.
