For 33 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50, reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey although for the edition, reviews are little changed from as no survey could run for that year. We were welcomed appropriately, we arrived very early for our booking. Utilised the spotless well-appointed toilets, up a spiral staircase, but there is a disabled toilet on the ground floor.

It has been lovingly restored and is a prominent landmark in the local community. Spiral staircases, spacious dining rooms, roaring fires in the Winter and a delightful Summer outdoor dining area, only enhance this elegant building. Whether it be enjoying the rolling countryside, watching the cricketers on the green opposite and the lovely sunset across the fields, or sipping a champagne cocktail in the lounge, at only 3 miles from Brentwood and 10 miles from Chigwell, its location is superb. Although predominantly a seafood restaurant serving the finest fish and shellfish, mouth watering meat dishes add to this impressive menu. We will soon be taking reservations via our website but until then please call: to make your table reservation. Please note: Children under 12 years old are not permitted in the restaurant. Should you need to cancel your booking, this can be made without charge provided that 12 hours notice is given. For non-cancelled bookings, or you do not attend your booking, Alec'sRestaurant reserves the right to charge 25 per person. We are sorry that cancellation charges have become necessary but regrettably our experience dictates this precaution.

The quality of the food was excellent and the service was outstanding. Our waiter Mihai was so professional it really helped make it a special evening. December I heard many great things about this restaurant and it absolutely lived up to expectation. The food was well presented and it had so much flavour. The staff could not have been friendlier and more helpful if they tried, and our waitress, Issy, went above and beyond the entire night. The whole experience from start to finish is worth the Restaurant was well laid out with plenty of room. Food was fabulous and well presented.
