Just had our stove installed so reluctantly bought a net of firewood from the petrol station to try it out. Measured on freshly split pieces.

By harry. My old one needed manual calibration every time it was used, but had a sample and hold button. This new one auto-calibrates at switch on, but seems to lack a hold button. Both had rather thick probes, which are not well suited to our caravan use. Old unit had to be switched off, new one switches itself off after 30 seconds. The lack of a Hold, makes it awkward to use in a confined space, but a curly extension lead for the probes, with a pair of sharp needle would solve that.

I bought one 3 years ago primarily to check the moisture content of firewood, it's still working on the original batteries. Well recommended. If you don't swear when you're driving, you're not paying attention! I like children but can't eat a whole one. If you can't say something nice, don't say anything!

Wondering if the tree was dead before felling which could account for dryness? Coincidentally I went down to my log pile this morning with a cup of coffee, an axe and my moisture meter. If you want to test your meter you can do a series of experiments using a kitchen scale and an oven at 60dgrees ish. Will dig out the instructions as it has a calibration thing in the cap a resistor I think!
