Haven't really tried those cafe ones - sensory lab pretty famous does beans and ground coffee at coles now and I've tried two bags of it and still rate the ALDI one over it.

Lazzio print the roast date on the pack as you can see in this old pic. Not the one I bought yesterday, this is medium roast. I bought dark roast yesterday. I guess coffee is just the emperor's clothes things and the snobbers just don't want to admit it. Aldi coffee quality is fairly good, I once had a batch of Columbia one that was so divine but sadly never getting anything close to that, even among the self proclaimed prestige roasters. The single origins are hit and miss between bags - sometimes really good, but sometimes not great. Not an issue if you don't mind the taste of robusta.
