There were some tentative uplifts in the final week in reaction to movements on the butter market. Market sentiment is positive with some large industry events taking place and the GDT index moving upwards. There are some concerns being raised over future supply, with milk volumes still back year on year, the spring flush is being eagerly awaited. SMP markets were said to be flat with little interest from buyers resulting in a tightening in the price range.

Monday, 4 March Short-term, ongoing pressure from competitive Black Sea supplies continue to weigh on prices. Longer-term, EU wheat production is expected to fall on the year, and new crop conditions are in focus. Rapid planting in Brazil is supporting current estimates of heavy maize supplies from South America. Longer-term, these supplies are expected to continue to pressure global prices. Barley prices continue to track the wider grains complex. Global wheat markets were overall pressured last week.
