It was a lot of missiles. Balteus moves fast, has a tough shield, and fires missile volleys that even the bosses in bullet hell shmups would be envious of. It's a tough fight the first time you take it on, but luckily the right AC build makes Balteus much, much easier to handle. The most important part for this fight is your right hand weapon: the pulse gun. While it doesn't have much range and quickly overheats, this weapon is purpose built for taking down shields like Balteus's. Your goal is to get in close and use this weapon to drain the shield, then unload with the rest of your damage. In this build I've gone for a straightforward pair of bipedal legs, with other basic parts like the arms and core prioritizing AP, aka your mech's hit points. While you don't want to sacrifice too much speed, you're inevitably going to take some hits in this fight, and a bit of extra health is a nice cushion. Balteus is fairly easy to hit with missiles, but if you have an alternate shoulder weapon you prefer, give it a shot.

Balteus is arguably the first major gut check of Armored Core 6: Fires of Rubicon. Compared with all the other enemies you may have fought, nothing is like Balteus. Not only can it easily stagger you with barrages of missiles but it can easily destroy your AC, melting it with its flamethrower-arms. While the encounter probably seems impossible on your first attempt, follow our guide for build strategies to take it down. And with your new friend Ayre in your ear, it's a decidedly different vibe than Walter barking at you. The biggest obstacle is the pulse shield that makes BALTEUS invulnerable for a time, so you'll have to deplete it in order to stagger the boss. As such, this is where you need to emphasize Plasma weaponry, so go with dual Plasma Rifles and Missile Launchers and anything that can help your EN recharge. You might also consider a single Plasma Rifle and a sword in your offhand, if only for the damage outfit when the boss is stunned. Each missile will arc outward before homing in on you. Fire off all your missiles and then Assault Boost at it and dodge through one of the two open areas without any missiles to get a few close-range shots in. There are several attack patterns with these same missiles. You can sometimes avoid them by rushing towards BALTEUS, but more often than not, the best thing is to run away until the missiles converge in your direction and then boost away as they rain down. The two attacks you really need to watch out for are the short-range shotgun blast and the bazooka.
