The Seven Kingdoms [1] is the name given to the former realm that controlled most of the continent of Westeros and its numerous offshore islands, ruled by the King of the Andals and the Rhoynar and the First Men from the Red Keep in the city of King's Landing. The name of the realm dates back to the time prior to Aegon's 7 kingdoms listduring which seven independent kingdoms existed on the continent. We know quite a lot about the twenty twenty-three when looking at Game of Thrones canon kings and queens who have sat on the Iron Throne during the almost three centuries of the Targaryen dynasty and the Baratheon rulers who followed the dragonlords.
