I repalced it but it still takes an act of god to get it started. Needless to say, once were up and running, it seems to have no power at all.

Like was said, 2x4 won't be your best option for snow or mud. That being said, I had an 86 and would rate it very high. No help on the shifter, but if you shift it with your hand instead of a foot you might feel a broken spring hanging up in there. I replaced the starter solenoid thinking that maybe one of the poles was bad still no luck.
